Sexual abuse definition criteria vary by age of perpetrator: a person younger than 14 years of age, 14 years of age or older, 18 years of age or older, 20 years of age or older, or a caretaker (no age specified). Age can determine priority type and where the report is referred. Ex. Cuts, bruises, & welts: Priority I, referred to Crimes Against Children Division if the child is age 3 or younger; all other referred to DCFS. Educational neglect: children between the ages of 6 and 17 years. Shaking a child: for an allegation to be founded, the caretaker needs to have caused an injury for children ages 4 or older, but not ages 3 or younger. Striking a child on the face/head: for an allegation to be founded, the caretaker needs to have caused a physical injury for children ages 7 or older, but not ages 6 or younger.
